Melanie Black

Mrs. Black graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Music Education. While at JMU, Mrs. Black studied voice under David Newman and Dr. Dorothy Maddison. Mrs. Black studied choral conducting under Dr. Bryce Hayes and Dr. Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromy. Throughout her undergraduate career, Mrs. Black reinstated and directed the Madisonians show choir. Mrs. Black also had the privilege to work with ensembles in the Harrisonburg community such as the Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir and the New Horizons Band. After completing her degree, Mrs. Black served as the music director for the theatre department at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia. Mrs. Black has served as the Director of Choral Activities at John Champe High School since 2017.
